Get to know us!

Thank you for visiting Gaskill Angus. We’re glad you’re here.

Growing up in rural towns in Eastern Montana, Bill and Shaylee had always known each other, but started dating when Bill was home from college and Shaylee was still attending Dickinson State. After 5 years of dating, Bill and Shaylee were married in 2021. In 2023, they welcomed son Wrett into their family. Bill works on the ranch with his dad near Volborg, Montana, while Shaylee owns and operates Cowtown Ag Supply in Miles City.

The Gaskill’s have been ranching on Pumpkin Creek and the surrounding area for over 100 years. With moves and expansions, the Gaskill families still ranch in the area and continue to run cattle on the original homestead. Bill and his father Dan run a commercial cattle operation, as well as Bill’s evolving registered Angus herd.

While running a commercial cowherd, the unmeasured traits of Angus cattle do not go unconsidered

when making the mating decisions for the registered cattle in the Gaskill Angus herd. Selling steers in the fall off the commercial cows, backgrounding the remainder of the calves for a short time, and raising replacement females for the commercial operation show the importance of producing cattle that are long, stout structured, heavy muscled, deep ribbed capacious cattle that maintain flesh and convert feed into pounds of protein at a high level of efficiency.

There are many “convenience traits” like conversion, type and kind, cow productivity and maternal strengths, sound structure, udder quality, capacity, and fleshing ability that are not measured by an EPD…these traits are very important to us at Gaskill Angus.
